How, why and when to use wrist wraps?
If you ask yourself which parts of the body you use the most for weightlifting or any training to increase your power, you think first of your legs, shoulders and your lower back.
But you just forget easily that in every exercise your hands and your wrists are just as important. They play a major role and are exposed to high loads.
The hand consists of 27 bones from which 8 are located at the wrist and are supported through plenty of ligaments and tendons. The structure of the wrist is pretty complex since it has to be flexible to maintain and perform all the necessary movement of the hand.
Great flexibility leads to less stability though and with that, the risk of getting injured increases.
Especially when it comes to weightlifting, there is such a high force affecting the joints. Not just with the snatch and the clean and jerk, but even with basic exercises as the front squat or the strict press, you strain your wrists. To reduce the risk of an injury, tension or to prevent physical overload, the wrist wrap is the common and best way to give your joint stability. Another positive feature of the wrist wrap is that it warms the joint and increases the blood circulation.

Good blood circulation is always a great way to prevent injuries and support a quick regeneration after training with high intensity.
Wrist wraps are easy to wrap around the wrist and you can fit them easy after your personal need of stability. Important is to fit them not to low, otherwise, there is no function besides you wear a nice armband. Please don’t forget that your wrists shouldn’t lose any of their flexibility. Especially with the clean and the front squat flexibility and stability goes hand in hand.
If you have problems with your mobility, wrist wraps won’t help you to improve your flexibility and you should continue to work on your mobility in your wrists and shoulders. It is recommended to use wrist wraps for your heavy sets and high loads, but don’t wear them the whole training session.
Give your joints the possibility to get used to pressure, especially when you do your warm up. Wrist wraps are designed to prevent physical overload. Since every athlete likes to hit their maximal loads and personal records, wrist wraps are a useful helper and should be found in every training bag.
