What is a massage gun really good for?
Field report of our athlete Lea about the FLOW Mini Massage Gun
A kind of drilling machine that also helps with regeneration? When I heard about it, I was skeptical at first. But when I tried it for the first time during a self-massage, I did not want to give it up.
The Flow Gun with its 4 different massage levels is super easy to use and especially if you do not always have a physiotherapist at hand, a super useful tool. If I have a trigger point, a kind of muscle hardening, the Flow Gun helps me enormously.
Almost everyone is familiar with the Blackroll these days. Whoever has tried them knows how painful and unpleasant rolling out can be. With the Flow Gun the application is painless and therefore much more comfortable. The vibration increases the blood supply to the muscle and makes it feel softer and more relaxed.
There are 4 different attachments that can work the muscle differently. The battery lasts about 3 hours, depending on the level you use and how hard you put pressure on the device.
I personally do competitive sports – powerlifting, so I move heavy weights for many hours every week. It cannot be avoided that tensions and little aches and pains may occur. In training I always give everything and almost too much. But when it comes to regenerative measures in the form of stretching and rolling out on the Blackroll, I am not always motivated to take further active measures after the long training.
The Flow Gun helped me a lot, because you hardly have to do anything yourself (yes, even competitive athletes are sometimes a little lazy). The vibration is also so quiet that I can easily use the Flow Gun in front of the TV in the evening. I can only recommend it to anyone who wants to take their regeneration to a new level!

Some kind of drilling machine to help with regeneration?
For those who train a lot and hard, tension is not uncommon. Especially in weightlifting, powerlifting or CrossFit, many individual muscle groups are used during a workout. In order to be fit again for the next training session, regeneration naturally plays a decisive role. That’s why top athletes like to have recourse to the physiotherapist they trust. But what do you do if, for example, you do not have the opportunity to attend regular treatments with a physiotherapist due to lack of time?
An alternative (but not a 100% replacement) to the classic visit to the physiotherapist is offered by the so-called massage guns.
The application possibilities of a massage gun are versatile, for example, the device can be used at home or in the office.
It is very handy, equipped with a rechargeable battery, so it fits perfectly into a backpack or a drawer and is therefore always ready to hand in case of tensions.
Massage guns work according to the principle of vibration massage. They loosen tensions in muscle and fascial tissue with the help of vibrating shock movements. Furthermore, even deep-seated tensions can be treated by selecting suitable attachments. In combination with the different vibration levels, every athlete can create an individually pleasant regeneration.
As with trigger point therapy by a physiotherapist, the massage pistol acts precisely on a specific point. This can result in positive effects in the areas of mobility, regeneration, blood circulation, pain relief, healing after sports injuries and prevention of sports injuries.
In addition to the most frequently stressed areas such as the thighs, neck or back, the shoulder, calves, feet and chest muscles can also be worked on with a massage gun.
ADVANTAGES OF MASSAGE PISTOLS
- easy to use
- economical to buy
- mobile and quickly ready for use
- alternative to a visit to the physiotherapist
- individually adjustable to your needs
Initially a low bump rate should be started and then gradually increased. Most massage guns, therefore, offer a selection of 1200 -3200 strokes per minute. Depending on the muscle group, the duration of application and the number of shocks can be adjusted according to personal perception.
The treatment should not take longer than 1 minute, otherwise, over-irritation and inflammation of the muscle tissue may occur.
Before training, the massage gun helps, for example, to relieve pain in case of tension and thus improves mobility during the exercise.
To loosen the muscles and accelerate regeneration, a short massage immediately after training is suitable.
